Baptism

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me . . ."
John 10:27

If your child has not yet been baptized and is 6 years old or older, religious educations instruction is required.

First Reconciliation / First Eucharist

"I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger and he who believes in me shall never thirst."
John 6:35

First Reconciliation is a part of First Eucharist. First Reconciliation is offered in Second grade and up. The sacrament of Reconciliation is a sacrament of healing which "brings about a true ‘spiritual resurrection,' restoration of the dignity and blessings of the life of the children of God, of which the most precious is the friendship with God" (CCC 1468). Children first receive this sacrament during their second grade year, prior to First Communion. Parents share, with their child's religion teacher, the responsibility of preparing their children for the reception of this and all sacraments.

Our children need the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eurcharist. The love of Christ offered to them in the Blessed Sacrament is presented and celebrated in the two year preparation classes. First Holy Communion is celebrated annually in Grade 2 who have completed two full years of catechetical preparation.

Confirmation

"I indeed have baptized you with water but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
Mark 1:8

For eighth grade students, we prepare them for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The students who receive this sacrament become full members of the church. Confirmation is celebrated annually for young people in grade 8 who have completed two full years of catechetical preparation.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION (RCIA)

. . of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ."
Peter 3:21

Evangelization is the responsibility of the total parish community. We are all commissioned by the virtue of our Baptism, to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to all we meet. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is an excellent way to bring people to the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The RCIA is for those adults seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church. That is, those who would celebrate the sacrament of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. It is also for those who have not completed their initiation into the Catholic Church. That is those who have not celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation or Eucharist. Also, those baptized in other Christian denominations and the individual is seeking membership in the Roman Catholic Church.

If you are an unbaptized adult or a parent of an older child and want to become a member of the Catholic Church please contact the rectory office.

The RCIA program is in both English and Spanish. The English coordinator is Mrs. Patricia Roda. The current Spanish coordinator is Mr. Rene Lau. The English RCIA group meetp every Sunday at 8:45AM. The Spanish group meets every Sunday at 9:45AM. They take part in the Archdiocesan Commitment and the Scrutinies. Both groups use formatted programs that take approximately thirty-three weeks to complete. Both groups also celebrate the Sacrament of Initiation with the elect and candidates for full communion in the Church at the Easter Vigil.

PRAYER FOR CATECHISTS

O Word of God,

Help those who catechize to turn their faces to you, That they might know the Father
And feel your redemptive loveThrough the presence of the Holy Spirit.

O Word of God,

When the Father spoke, The world was created, life began, And love was brought into the world. Help catechists to count the blessings of the loving God in their midst, To be filled with your kindness, And to know the fruits of their labor.

O Word of God,

May the works of their hands and hearts prosper. Make them towers of strength that can withstand all of the buffeting winds encountered during this coming year. May they be beautiful in your eyes, A beacon of hope for all who seek to know you. Bless their labor, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Bring those whom they catechize to faith in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
